Part 1 – Theory Test

The first stage focuses on road safety, instructional techniques, and hazard perception. We provide study materials and guidance to help you prepare effectively.

Part 2 – Driving Ability Test

You’ll need to demonstrate a high standard of driving. Our trainers will help you develop the advanced driving skills required to meet DVSA expectations.

Part 3 – Instructional Ability Test

This stage assesses your ability to teach learner drivers safely and professionally. We use realistic training scenarios to help you develop the coaching skills needed to become a successful instructor.

Want to try a sample session?

A popular option for those considering taking up training as a Driving Instructor, is to try a sample training session before fully committing to the process.

This gives an insight into aspects of both part 2 and part 3 training.

The great news is, if you do decide you want to embark on the path of training to be a Driving Instructor, you can deduct the amount paid for the sample session from the overall cost of your course. If you decide it’s not for you, the most you’ll lose is the cost of the session!

The cost of the sample session is £99.00 for three hours.

How much can I expect to earn?

Earnings can vary significantly based on several factors, such as; how much you charge, whether you own your own car, how many hours you work and how far you travel each day. Below is a typical example of an Instructors earnings, based on them leasing a car.

Income:

Hours per week-36

Lesson price-£35.00 (our Instructors charge between £36.00-£38.00).

Incoming earnings per week-approximately £1260.00.

Expenditure:

Car lease-£95.00 per week.

Fuel-£95.00 per week.

Insurance-£10.00 per week

Servicing etc-£10.00 per week

Expenditure per week-approximately £210.00

This gives a gross weekly income (after expenditure) of approximately £1050.00. Annual income (based on working 47 weeks per year) of approximately £49,350.00. This will obviously be subject to the usual tax and National insurance contributions. The bonus being, you have a new(ish) fully maintained car at your disposal for your own use aswell!

How long does it take?

Our training sessions are typically conducted 3 hours at a time. Training can realistically be completed within 4 to 12 months. This will largely depend on your availability to attend sessions and to a lesser extent, the availability of tests.

Additional Test fees apply for parts 1,2 & 3-

Theory Test (Part 1)-£84.00 payable to DVSA

Driving Ability Test (Part 2)-£111.00 payable to DVSA

Instructional Ability Test (Part 3)-£111.00 payable to DVSA

Miscellaneous costs-

In addition to the above, there are a few other costs that may be incurred.

You would normally use your own car for Part 2 training and for attending part 2&3 tests. You will use the Trainer’s car for all Part 3 training and this is included in the cost.

In the unlikely event you cannot provide a car for the above, you can hire the Trainer’s car for an additional £40.00 per hour.

Once completing 40 hours of Part 3 Training, you may wish to apply for a Training Licence to help with your further development.
